September meeting minutes

Sunset PTSO Minutes

September 24, 2009

3:15 call to order – Sunset Library

In attendance:  Dave Fels, Karlee Sandell, Maraya Radcliffe, Kari Perry, Jenny Palmer, KJ Wesenberg, Theresa Parker, Brenna Burke, Lynn Jacobs, Caroline Popma, Linnette Jackson, Jenny Kling, Michele Beyer, Renae Abboud, Robyn Deeb, Heathyr Nance, Catherine Parisio, Kathy Ludwig, Tiina Lemetyirer, Val Prothero, Cathryn Viteri, Julie Carr, and Andrea Paul.

Julie Carr and Andrea Paul from School Supplies Delivered reported that 46 orders for school supplies had been filled for Sunset families.  This earned the school some free supplies to be used at the discretion of the principal or counselor.

June minutes, as recorded by Dave Fels and reviewed by Caroline Popma, were approved. The summer (July and August) financial report was also approved showing an income of about $500 from corporate incentives and an $8800 carry-over from the 2008-09 budget year.

PTSO Classroom Representatives introduced themselves and supplied their email addresses while Linnette highlighted their duties – namely to be a source of communication between the PTSO and the parents in each class  (no regular reports necessary!)

Each of the Committee/Fundraising Chairs introduced themselves and gave an update on their activity/event – the most current notes are below;

Book fair—Sept 29-Oct 6.  Help is needed for take-down on October 7th

Family Fun Nights—first one is Pizza BINGO on October 2nd.  Sign-ups for volunteering are in the hall outside the library.  Any donations for prizes would be helpful.

PACE fundraiser is ongoing and underway.  The last day to still get prizes for signing up is Friday, October 2nd, but parents can sign up at any time.  Also, out-of-town families can support Sunset with PACE in their area.

Fall Fundraiser (Sally Foster Gift Wrap/Write a check)

Barn Blast—at Sunset on October 23rd.  Maybe each class can manage a game?

Staff Appreciation—October 6th luncheon by 2nd and 3rd grade parents and Kari Perry. This will fuel our teachers on a looong day.

Family Breakfast—inclusive of families, grandparents, etc. rather than “Mom” and “Dad”

Read to Me Week—was so named.

Spring Fundraiser—Heathyr Nance and Theresa Parker are exploring venues.

Carnival—the PTSO has their own insurance enabling us to have bounce houses.

Scrip–Jennifer Duburg will take over from Carol Shelby this fall.

Box Tops—

Clothes Closet— we may do a “Dress for Success” drive in the spring for women’s clothing.

Spirit Wear—we are working to get a bulk order for anyone interested.  There are some cute styles – look for them in the halls!

Dine Out for Sunset—Jenny Kling – Cold Stone Creamery in October and Pizza Schmizza on November 18th.

Meeting adjourned at 4:30 with no new business, but lots of sweaty kids.
