For privacy purposes, the check ledger will no longer be published, but can be viewed if requested. There was miscellaneous income in August from corporate incentives like eScrip. There is one outstanding check. Motions to approve the June, July and August financials were carried.
Jenny Kling outlined the responsibilities of classroom representatives. All present were notified that the April Meeting (4/26) – will be rescheduled, due to a conflict with the Sunset Showcase. Kristen Van Tuyl introduced the PTSO Blog and Facebook group.
Jenny Kling introduced the Event chairs, and those present briefly discussed their events and current needs. The auction committee needed coordinators for the Dessert Dash and the slideshow. Allison Hedgepeth volunteered for the slideshow. A chair for Labels for Education and eScrip was still needed. Kari Perry reminded everyone to turn in their Volunteer Forms by 9/19.
There was no new business.
Jenny Kling introduced Principal Lisa Hawking. Ms. Hawking voiced her appreciation for the trust that parents have in bringing their children to school. Spoke of her goals for the school: math, wellness and sustainability goals will be carried over, and a new writing goal is a possibility. Ms. Hawking expressed her belief that as a leader she should be listening, and making changes through the lens of what is best for the children. Discussed changes: the dismissal procedure and community lunch. She said that the MPR may be used for recess, so the staff will be thinking about ways to make the space welcoming. Ms. Hawking explained Professional Growth Wednesdays– teachers are engaged in professional growth on early release days, and are not necessarily “off” when school is out. The new Wellness teacher, Tammy Ellis was discussed and seems to be doing well. Ms. Hawking explained that on Thursdays and Fridays, classes are doubled up during Wellness. A parent raised concern about teacher burnout during double up days and asked if there was an option for IA or parent support during those days. Ms. Hawking thanked the parent for her concern and said that she will be checking in with Ms. Ellis frequently and assess the situation as needed. Ms. Hawking clarified that the school is no longer on an ABCDE schedule. She asked for feedback throughout the year.
Jenny raised the point that Site Council meetings will be included in some PTSO meetings.
Jessica Moore won the Spirit Wear Raffle.
